Unified SDI/ST 2110/NDI/NVI signal processing — live production, recording, monitoring, virtual studio, and conversion tools.

Overview

Sobey provides a full-stack, converged production workflow tailored for fixed broadcast studios and outdoor OB vans, built around the openGear modular hardware platform and the unified Mediavate signal processing framework. The product portfolio covers every core live production link: multi-format signal conversion, multi-layer live switching, hybrid IP/SDI multi-view monitoring, high-density multi-cam recording, portable on-location recording, playback, and monitoring, and lightweight real-time 3D virtual studio production. All devices natively support 4K/HD SDI, ST 2110 IP, NDI, and Sobey's proprietary NVI streaming protocols — eliminating format conversion loss and enabling seamless cross-platform content creation for traditional television and new-media digital channels. The embedded FPGA architecture ensures stable, low-latency hardware processing, while the modular card-based design maximizes space efficiency for compact OB truck layouts and flexible studio system expansion.

Challenge

From the signal chain to the equipment rack, studios and OB vans keep hitting the same walls: heterogeneous formats that demand piles of standalone converters, truck racks too tight for discrete hardware, production split between TV and digital platforms, virtual studios priced out of smaller productions, and field crews hauling separate recorders, scopes, and media readers.

01

Heterogeneous signal compatibility

Legacy SDI cameras, ST 2110 infrastructure, NDI remote feeds, and NVI network signals feed the same production — piles of standalone converters mean messy cabling, quality degradation, and no unified LUT-based tools for HDR/SDR cross-format work.

02

OB van space constraints

Truck racks have extremely limited space, yet discrete switching, multiview, recording, and playback hardware makes setups bulky and heavy — while multi-camera events demand dozens of simultaneous recording channels most compact systems can't deliver.

03

Split TV and digital workflows

Linear TV and short-video platforms need synchronized content, but conventional setups separate studio production from online streaming — duplicating equipment and drifting visual output between the large screen and the small one.

04

Virtual studio cost and complexity

Traditional immersive virtual studios rely on heavy render servers, professional tracking hardware, and complicated operator training — out of reach for smaller news, education, and corporate broadcasts that need both TV and streaming output.

05

Field production inefficiency

Outdoor shoots lack one integrated portable tool for media offloading, waveform monitoring, quick playback, and simultaneous HDR/SDR preview — forcing crews to carry multiple separate devices.

Solution

Five building blocks cover the whole chain — modular signal conversion, converged switching and monitoring, high-density recording, portable field production, and a lightweight virtual studio — all speaking SDI, ST 2110, NDI, and NVI natively.

Modular openGear Signal Conversion: IPG / MCG / MCS Series Cards

All cross-format signal processing is powered by openGear-compatible Mediavate modular boards that unify SDI, ST 2110, NVI, and NDI.

  • IPG-1021A dual-channel IP/SDI bidirectional converter with ultra-low latency, for OB van and studio gateway routing.
  • MCG-1016 / MCG-1018Multi-format up/down cross converters with dynamic and static metadata, editable LUT tables, and HDR/SDR transformation — restoring consistent visuals between 4K HDR camera feeds and HD SDR broadcast outputs. The 1018 adds multi-LUT auto-switching and full ST 2110 IP processing.
  • MCS-1015Integrates a 4-input signal selector with scaling and AES audio embedding, for pre-processing external sources before the switcher.

All cards fit shared 2U openGear chassis with hot-swappable design, drastically cutting equipment volume and cabling complexity inside OB vans.

FusMix Converged Switcher + MVG-2206 Hybrid Multiviewer

  • FusMix — the production hubUnlimited cascading M/E layers, built-in DDR playback, a real-time graphics engine, an integrated audio mixer, and native switching across SDI, ST 2110, NDI, and NVI — eliminating separate graphics servers, playback devices, and audio consoles.
  • MVG-2206 — the wallUp to 32 channels of 4K monitoring across four independently configurable 4K outputs — SDI, IP, and HDMI displaying simultaneously — with built-in Tally, audio meters, and signal fault alarms.

Sharing consistent ST 2110 and SDI compatibility with the switcher, the pair forms a fully converged production core.

High-Density UHD Recorder: REC Series

REG-1024 and REC-1026 card-based recorders adopt the 2U openGear chassis.

  • DensityUp to 20 channels of 4K SDI recording, or 10 channels of 4K ST 2110 IP recording, in a single rack unit — far more compact than traditional multi-unit recording servers.
  • Formats and protectionFPGA hardware encoding supports ProRes, XAVC, and DNxHD professional formats, with mirrored dual-SSD recording backup and hot-swappable storage.
  • Optional AI metadataReal-time face recognition, speech-to-text, and scene tagging, written as the material is captured.

The footprint fits space-limited OB truck racks while meeting multi-camera sports, gala, and news recording demands.

MetaDeck Portable All-in-One Recorder & Player

MetaDeck is a compact portable hardware workstation for OB van and outdoor field production.

  • Record and playDual-channel 4K recording and playback.
  • MonitoringProfessional waveform and vector scope monitoring, plus simultaneous HDR/SDR SDI/HDMI output for post-production preview.
  • Media exchangeMulti-format import and export via SSD, CFexpress Type-A, and SD cards.

Combining media offloading, signal monitoring, and quick highlight replay in one lightweight device cuts the gear field crews carry and accelerates media delivery to post-production teams.

Meta.Lux Lightweight Virtual Studio

Meta.Lux delivers a lightweight, UE5-powered real-time 3D virtual studio for simultaneous linear TV and digital streaming output.

  • Minimal rigControlled from a cross-platform web browser with a green screen, a single camera, and a PC.
  • Scene and graphics toolsHair-level chroma keying, hundreds of ready-to-use scene templates, AR graphic overlays, and multi-angle virtual camera movement.
  • DistributionUp to 5-channel simultaneous streaming to mobile short-video platforms.
  • EditionsLite, Professional, and Ultimate, with optional camera tracking and lightweight motion capture.

It replaces the cost and complexity of traditional virtual studios with cinematic-grade immersive scenes for news, finance, events, and brand marketing.
