IPG-1021

2CH 12G-SDI/IP converter board for openGear.

An openGear dual-channel broadcast converter realizing bidirectional ST 2110 IP / 12G-SDI and NVI signal conversion, with frame sync, audio embedding and de-embedding, and metadata pass-through for hybrid IP-SDI broadcast infrastructures.

Overview

IPG-1021 is a dual-channel IP/SDI conversion unit that also handles SDI/IP and NVI conversion, suited to IP/SDI interface conversion in OB vans, studios, master control rooms, and broadcast systems. One unit converts two channels or codes a single NVI channel; a 2RU 20-slot chassis scales to 20 channels of IP/SDI conversion.

Challenge

Getting a signal across the IP/SDI boundary is the most repeated job in a hybrid plant and the least glamorous — it has to be frame-accurate, latency-free, and dense enough that twenty conversions do not cost twenty rack units.

01

Boundary crossings everywhere

OB vans, studios, master control, and broadcast systems all need signals moved between ST 2110, SDI, and NVI, in both directions.

02

Frame accuracy

External SDI or IP sources arrive unsynchronised; conversion has to frame-sync them without adding latency the gallery can feel.

03

Audio follows video

SDI embedded audio and ST 2110-30 streams are different worlds; the conversion has to embed, de-embed, and re-time audio alongside the picture.

04

Rack economics

One box per conversion fills a truck long before the production needs it to; density is the whole point.

Solution

One unit handles two conversions, and twenty fit in a 2RU chassis.

Key Features

  • ConversionDual-channel IP/SDI conversion, or a single-channel NVI codec. One 4K/HD SDI input can output ST 2110 and NVI at once; one 4K ST 2110 input can output SDI and NVI at once.
  • DensityA single 2RU openGear chassis supports up to 20 channels of IP/SDI conversion, with redundant power.
  • SyncFrame synchronization on external SDI or IP signals, locked to ST 2059 PTP or a bi-level / tri-level REF.
  • AudioBuilt-in embedding and de-embedding converts between SDI-embedded audio and ST 2110-30 streams, with independent gain and delay per channel.
  • MetadataTransparent metadata transmission straight through the conversion.
  • StandardsThe full SMPTE ST 2110 series, ST 2022-7 main/backup, and NMOS IS-04/05 registration and control.
  • Interfaces2 × 25G SFP28 (main and backup) for ST 2110 and 4 × 12G-SDI (1 in, 1 in/out, 2 out) per unit, plus an RJ-45 network data port.

Scenarios

  • OB vansOutside broadcast vehicles running hybrid IP/SDI signal routing.
  • Master control and studiosTV station master control rooms and multi-functional studios migrating between SDI and ST 2110.
  • Live broadcast systemsAny live system requiring cross-conversion between IP and SDI signal interfaces.

Result

The IP/SDI boundary stops being a rack problem — twenty frame-synced, metadata-transparent conversions in 2RU, with audio handled on the way through.
