Beijing TV 8K Production Cloud

Beijing Radio & Television Station

A unified ultra-high-definition cloud, 8K end to end.

A fully networked 8K production and broadcasting chain from acquisition to air — using layered encoding and intelligent super-resolution to make ultra-large-format content practical at broadcast scale.

Overview

Aligned with Beijing Radio & Television Station's long-term technology strategy, the 8K Phase II system combines cloud computing, distributed architecture, and ultra-high-definition video into a single station-wide UHD cloud. It builds a fully networked 8K production and broadcasting chain from acquisition through to air.

Challenge

Producing 8K at broadcast scale is hard: ultra-large-format video is expensive to process, and genuine 8K content is scarce. The station needed to support 8K and 4K services together on its existing technical foundation.

01

Ultra-large-format processing

Efficiently producing and moving 8K's enormous frames strains conventional production infrastructure.

02

Scarce 8K content

With little native 8K material available, the station needed a way to build up a UHD content supply quickly.

03

Mixed-resolution operations

8K and 4K services had to coexist and be supported from one unified technical architecture, not parallel silos.

Solution

Sobey built an integrated ultra-high-definition production and broadcasting system spanning acquisition, production, and playout as one fully networked 8K chain. SUVC layered encoding keeps ultra-large-format video workable, and intelligent super-resolution transcoding helps close the 8K content gap — together forming a genuine station-wide ultra-HD cloud that supports 8K and 4K on one architecture.

Result

Beijing Station stood up a large-scale 8K production capability — a fully networked ultra-HD chain producing hundreds of hours of 8K content a year and steadily raising its UHD content supply.
